Why use hot water on the sauna stones?

Advantages of using hot water in your sauna

Many sauna lovers pour cold water on the stones without thinking so much about it. But there are actually several good reasons to use hot water instead - both to improve the sauna experience and to take care of your equipment in the best way.

Ā

Why does the temperature of the water play a role?

When you pour water on the sauna stones, the stones are cooled down. If the water is cold, the temperature difference becomes large, which can give a strong temperature shock. It affects both how the steam feels and how the stones and the stove feel in the long run. With hot water, the difference becomes smaller, which gives a smoother and softer heat.

Ā

The difference between hot and cold water

  • Cold water: Provides a quick and hard steam puff, but cools down the stones sharply. This means that the stove needs to work harder to regain the heat, which can tear more on both the stones and the stove.

  • Hot water: Provides a softer, more even steam and a more comfortable sauna heating. The stones retain the heat better and need less recovery time.

Ā

Benefits of hot water

  • The stones of cooling will not be as aggressive - The heat stays stable.

  • Do not need to fire as hard - The stove gets less work between each water in order.

  • Longer life on the fireplace - Less temperature wear gives fewer cracks and longer shelf life.

  • Does not need to use as much firewood - More efficient heat maintenance means lower wood consumption.

  • Smoother steam - Softer feeling that is often more comfortable for skin and breathing.

  • Water can be heated in our water tank - Practical and always ready without extra steps.

Ā

Practical tips

  • Have a bucket or container with warm water ready when you bastard.

  • Do you warms in a Sauna Tent with wood -burning stove (Bast Sauna)? Use the water from the water tank on the stove.

  • Pour small amounts at a time to avoid overloading the stones.

Ā

Security

  • Always use ladle and keep away when pouring water.

  • Do not pour water on cold stones - let the stove get warm first.

Ā

Summary

Using hot water on the sauna stones provides softer steam, better and more even heat and spare both stove And stones. This makes the experience more comfortable, saves firewood and can extend the life of the equipment.

Heat between the sessions

After each surf session, they gathered in our Sauna Tent. It became a place to regain warmth, rest their muscles, and talk through what they had just experienced. Maybe even reflect on why they truly chase those perfect waves.

And for us, that's exactly what the sauna is all about. Not just heat – but the rhythm of recovery, performance, and community. A place to land.

That our Sauna Tent got to be part of such a journey – together with some of the world's most dedicated surfers – is something we are incredibly proud of.

Who are they?

Freddie Meadows

is Sweden's most experienced professional surfer. After ten years on the competition scene, he chose to follow his heart and start exploring Scandinavian coastlines – with the goal of finding world-class waves in our northern waters.

Nic von Rupp

Hailing from Portugal, he is known for surfing some of the biggest waves ever at NazarƩ. He is a multiple championship winner, documentary filmmaker, and has twice been nominated for the World Surf League's "Big Wave Performance of the Year."

Andrew Cotton

Born in the United Kingdom, he is a pioneer of Big Wave Surfing in Europe. He has towed surfing legends into record-breaking waves, gained global recognition, and pushed the boundaries of what British surfing can be – while balancing his career with life as a parent of young children.

Sauna + surf = an obvious combination

There is something special about the contrast between cold and heat, performance and stillness. The chaos of the waves meets the calm of the tent. And for those who surf in Arctic conditions, the sauna is not a luxury – it is a necessity.

Where will the next wave happen? We don’t know. And we’re not supposed to know. But one thing is certain: our Sauna Tent will be there.
